A rethink for China’s carmakers as regulators tell them to fix quality, not add features

Four Chinese ministries have started a year-long vehicle-quality campaign that prohibits manufacturers from altering technical parameters via over-the-air updates after test samples are sealed, imposing penalties such as removal from the product catalogue. Additionally, a mandatory standard coming into force in July 2027 will require physical controls for 19 vehicle functions.
