Samsung chairman Lee Jae-yong will buy $1.4bn of shares from his mother in October

Lee Jae-yong will buy 7,188,793 Samsung Electronics common shares from his mother Hong Ra-hee on 12 October for 1.94 trillion won ($1.4 billion), raising his stake to 1.58% and reducing hers to 1.13%. The off-market transaction, priced at 269,500 won per share, avoids market impact and funds repayment of Hong’s inheritance-tax loans linked to the family’s $8 billion estate liability. Lee finances the purchase with dividends and unsecured borrowing.
