San Francisco Orders Meta to Stop ‘Allowing’ AI Child Abuse Ads

San Francisco’s city attorney sent Meta a cease-and-desist demanding an end to ads that featured AI-generated child sexual abuse imagery, citing more than 350 such ads that turned real minors’ photos into short videos depicting sexual acts. The ads, discovered by the Tech Transparency Project, reached over 29,000 accounts across the EU and also targeted users in the US, Australia and India, prompting Meta to remove them and report under $5,000 in total ad spend.
