Scientists find closest star to the Milky Way's central black hole

Researchers have identified a new star on an extremely eccentric orbit that brings it closer to the Milky Way’s central black hole, Sgr A*, than any previously known star. The star’s trajectory may enable the first direct measurement of the black hole’s spin. Sgr A* has a mass of roughly 10^37 kilograms.
