Scientists Find Worms in Almost Every Fish in a Tuna Haul – 96% Were Infected
Scientists examined 53 skipjack tuna from southern Brazil and found 96% infected, counting over 1,600 worms of the genera Trypanorhyncha and Anisakis. Parasites were absent only from kidney and heart, while intestines, muscle tissue (the edible part), and stomach showed the highest loads. The authors stress immediate evisceration to prevent larval migration into muscle and highlight the economic and food-safety implications of such widespread infection.
