Scientists Have Found the Most Convincing Evidence Yet of a Dark Matter Particle

Researchers at the Sanford Underground Research Facility observed a single, unexplained xenon-nucleus recoil event in a liquid-xenon detector after 220 days of data taking, a signature that some WIMP models predict for dark-matter interactions. The team estimates that, if caused by a WIMP, the particle would be roughly 200 times the proton’s mass, and they have released a preprint detailing the finding while seeking input from the broader scientific community.
