Second complete map of a fruit fly brain completed

Researchers have completed a full-resolution connectome of every neuron in a male Drosophila brain, matching the earlier female map and providing a comprehensive reference of the fruit fly’s hundreds of millions of synapses. The project combined HHMI Janelia’s biological preparation with Google’s computational analysis, showcasing methods that could scale to more complex vertebrate nervous systems.
