Seeing through murky waters
The system first uses sonar to generate a rapid, low-resolution map of the seafloor, enabling a remotely operated vehicle to approach targets despite sediment clouds. An image-matching algorithm then estimates each pixel’s relative depth in real time, allowing cameras to capture detailed visuals for scientific, construction, and mine-handling tasks.
