Shopify moves back to Native from React Native

Shopify reverted to native iOS and Android development after LLM-driven agents made building and maintaining Swift and Kotlin code as cheap as the cross-platform duplication it once avoided. The AI-assisted workflow allowed developers to implement features, translate code, and verify parity across platforms, eliminating React Native’s primary advantage. Shopify will keep sponsoring its open-source React Native Skia library through 2026, with its maintainer forking the repository thereafter.
