Show HN: OpenTIE and OpenXWA, Modern Ports of Tie Fighter and X-Wing Alliance
OpenTIE reimplements Star Wars: TIE Fighter, running the 1995 Collector’s CD-ROM and 1998 Windows data on Windows, macOS, and Linux. It merges the original menus, cutscenes, and iMUSE soundtrack with the later flight simulation, 3D assets, and graphics options such as shadows, ambient occlusion, HDR, and up to 240 Hz refresh. The engine supports Roland SC-55 emulation, Sound Blaster-compatible OPL3 synthesis, FluidSynth SoundFonts, and modern gamepad/joystick input, requires a full installation of at least one original edition, and offers classic and modern rendering modes. OpenXWA, an open-source port of Star Wars: X-Wing Alliance, is also available for these platforms.
