Small AI models let drones autonomously identify and attack battlefield targets

Scaleout Systems, founded in 2018 by Uppsala University researchers, now supplies AI-driven target detection and selection for small drones used in surveillance and attack missions. The company shifted its focus to defense after Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine, enabling NATO allies to process edge and sensor data for machine-learning-based target identification.
