Sony Music, Warner sue Anthropic, alleging a “brazen campaign” of intellectual property theft

Sony Music Publishing, Warner Chappell and other music publishers sued Anthropic and its co-founders, alleging the AI lab illegally torrented, scraped and downloaded thousands of copyrighted songs and sheet-music works to train its Claude model. The complaint, filed in the Northern District of California, cites “brazen” piracy and seeks damages, while Anthropic says it will vigorously defend the allegations.
