SpaceX is spending $100bn on a second Starbase, on an old Exxon site in Louisiana

SpaceX will spend $100 billion to create a self-sustaining second Starbase on a former Exxon site in Vermilion Parish, Louisiana, featuring on-site propellant production, power generation, deep-water shipping, vehicle processing and an airport. Construction begins in 2027, with the first Starship launch targeted for 2029. Louisiana projects 3,000 direct jobs over ten years and a peak of more than 30,000 construction positions. The venture requires federal environmental approvals and must mitigate coastal erosion and wildlife impacts in Gulf Coast wetlands.
