Students who use AI generally score worse at school

The OECD’s 2025 Programme for International Student Assessment found that 15-year-old students who rely on AI for studying generally achieve lower scores in science, math and reading than peers who do not use AI. However, specific AI applications that are taught with critical-evaluation skills provide a modest performance increase for those learners.
