Sweden pauses Denmark power cable over EU grid rules
Sweden has halted the Konti-Skan Connect high-voltage DC link project, which would replace two aging cables between south-western Sweden and Denmark. The pause follows EU rules limiting how Sweden can use congestion-revenue funds. Stockholm cites a SEK 85 billion bottleneck fund and a projected SEK 130 billion over the next decade, seeking flexibility to allocate money for domestic grid upgrades, electricity support, and new generation. Brussels insists the income must fund cross-border infrastructure. The suspension reflects Stockholm’s demand for a settlement on revenue use before further Nordic interconnector investments.
