Tech companies are scouting Argentine Patagonia for AI data centres, Reuters reports

OpenAI signed a letter of intent with Argentine developer Sur Energy to build a Patagonia data centre of up to 500 MW, investing $25 bn, with a 100 MW phase planned for 2027. The Stargate programme also includes Pampa Energía’s 500 MW gas project in Neuquén, FlexDomes’ 120 MW phase, and Green Capital’s 300 MW wind-solar facility in Chubut. Argentina’s RIGI incentive regime provides 30-year tax and currency stability, while a pending “Super RIGI” bill proposes a 15% corporate tax and a $1 bn entry threshold.
