TechCrunch Mobility: The custom chip driving Waymo’s robotaxi ambitions

Waymo’s sixth-generation robotaxi platform uses a custom 5 nm ASIC that preprocesses data from its 13 high-fidelity cameras before reaching the core driving brain, delivering over 1,000 TOPS of compute performance comparable to Nvidia’s DRIVE AGX Thor. The company says the chip provides unmatched efficiency and speed, enabling rapid, safe reactions in dense urban environments, and it is built with partners including AMD, Micron, Nvidia, Samsung, Sandisk, Socionext, and TSMC.
