Terry Rozier and the Teleprompt Operator
The Eastern District of New York indicted five people for a scheme in which Hornets guard Terry Rozier allegedly told friend Laster he would leave a game early because of injury, allowing Laster, Fairley, Hennen and others to place “under” bets totaling over $200,000 that yielded tens of thousands of dollars. Legalized sportsbooks, whose annual betting volume rose from $4.8 billion in 2017 to more than $160 billion by 2025, matched these large wagers, showing how greater market liquidity enables high-stakes betting on low-volume events.
