Tesla’s Cybercab Officially Launches Today. It’s Already Under Investigation

Tesla’s two-seat Cybercab, lacking a steering wheel, brake pedals and other traditional controls, began driver-less service in Austin, Texas, while the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened an Audit Query to verify compliance with existing federal safety standards. The agency, which is revising eight rules to accommodate autonomous vehicles, expects Tesla to seek an exemption like Zoox did, and may impose penalties or require design changes if violations are found.
