Tesla’s driver assist faces new pressure after two fatal crashes where the cars stopped dead

Two 2020 Tesla Model 3s stopped at 0 mph in live freeway lanes—one on I-4 in Florida on 6 Oct 2025 and another on Loop 202 in Arizona on 31 Oct 2025—and were rear-ended, killing both drivers while a driver-assist system was engaged. The Dutch regulator approved Tesla’s FSD Supervised under UN Regulation 171 in April after 18 months of testing, sealed the approval rationale as commercial secrets, and an EU-wide vote on the system is scheduled for October.
