There's no reason for software to be slow anymore

LLMs have dramatically lowered the cost of performance engineering, allowing developers to create highly specialized software such as JIT compilers and custom regex engines without rare expertise. Using an LLM-driven agent, the FRE regex engine was tuned on a holdout benchmark, delivering 2-4× faster execution on long ripgrep queries while accepting slower short-query performance.
