Residential proxy networks lease home broadband to route malicious traffic, and many users of cheap streaming devices like SuperBox accept the trade-off of free movies. Plume’s research shows that SuperBox and dozens of similar players can be silently infected by remote attackers, even behind a router, turning them into conduits for crime and nation-state operations.
