A third of Perplexity's citations don't contain the number they're cited for

Perplexity’s two search models were asked 310 factual questions about 210 tech companies, producing 2,511 citation markers linking sentences that state figures to source URLs. Of the 1,826 checkable citations, 34.7% either led to pages that would not open for a typical reader or contained none of the cited numbers, while only 1.3% of URLs were dead; when evaluated per claim, 14.4% of the 872 figure-bearing claims failed to find any matching figure on the cited pages.
