This former PG&E engineer is building a ‘Google Maps for the underground’
Former PG&E engineer Josh Mackanic founded CivilGrid in 2020 to aggregate utility, property and regulatory data into a “Google Maps for the underground,” helping engineers locate buried infrastructure and avoid costly strikes. The startup raised a $26 million Series A and has already helped PG&E identify $60 million in avoidable paving costs across 1,600 gas projects.
