This graphite-free battery could break China’s grip on the EV supply chain

Pure Lithium reported that its laboratory-scale battery, which replaces the graphite anode with lithium metal deposited on a copper current collector, endured 9,315 charge-discharge cycles with virtually no capacity loss, though the result lacks third-party validation and disclosed energy density. The breakthrough could reduce reliance on graphite, a material 90% of which is processed in China, aligning with the EU’s goal to limit any single country’s share of strategic raw materials to 65% by 2030.
