TikTok’s settlement priced release from a 2019 privacy order at $100m. A judge has tentatively said the order stays.

A Los Angeles judge has tentatively refused to lift the 2019 consent decree that imposed ongoing privacy obligations on TikTok, citing that the order’s requirements have not been shown to be obviated. The $400 million settlement announced by the Justice Department includes $300 million paid immediately and a conditional $100 million that will be paid only if the court vacates the decree, making the release from oversight worth a quarter of the headline figure.
