Transfer files over an Ethernet patch cable

By assigning IPv6 addresses to each NIC (e.g., fd42:dead:beef::1/48 and ::2/48) and bringing the interfaces up, two computers can communicate directly over a standard Ethernet patch cable. Using socat and dd, a file can be streamed at roughly 900 Mbit/s (~6.7 GB/min), far faster than typical USB, Wi-Fi, or cloud transfers. This method requires only inexpensive cabling and works without a broader network or special hardware.
