Trump wants a $103,265 fee on new H-1B visas

The Department of Homeland Security has proposed a rule that would charge employers $103,265 for each new H-1B petition subject to the 85,000-visa annual cap, adding to existing filing fees and applying only to cap-subject, not cap-exempt or renewal cases. The fee’s revenue would be divided among six agencies, totaling roughly $8.78 billion, and the proposal faces lawsuits from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, several states, and a coalition of unions and employers.
