Uber and Wayve launch London’s first robotaxi service, with a safety driver in every car

Uber and Wayve are testing fewer than 20 Ford Mustang Mach-Es in London, each fitted with Wayve’s autonomous software but required to have a licensed private-hire driver ready to take control. Transport for London authorized up to 15 cars as private-hire vehicles, not fully driverless, keeping the trial under TfL safety oversight and limiting economic evaluation. The rollout tests Wayve’s end-to-end driving model after supervised pilots in Zagreb and Tokyo.
