US appeals court upholds Pentagon’s supply chain risk label on Anthropic

The DC Circuit upheld the Pentagon’s 2018 supply-chain security designation that labels Anthropic a risk, barring the military and contractors from using Claude. The court rejected Anthropic’s claims that the exclusion was arbitrary, unconstitutional, or unsupported by law, citing the company’s refusal to relax contract terms that prohibit lethal autonomous warfare or domestic surveillance. Anthropic remains opposed and is exploring further review.
