US automakers could soon be forced to include AM radio for free
The House passed the AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act, requiring new cars, trucks, and SUVs to include AM radio at no extra cost. The bill, backed by 60 co-sponsors, will go to the Senate, where Senators Markey and Cruz have already secured the filibuster threshold. Automakers such as BMW, Rivian, Tesla, and Volvo have largely dropped AM radio, citing electromagnetic interference from electric motors, but Ford has reversed its removal.
