US government lab is probing Chinese lidar for security vulnerabilities
The Idaho National Laboratory is conducting a DOE-funded review of Chinese lidar sensors to assess potential cybersecurity threats if they are widely deployed in U.S. vehicles, with funding coming from unnamed electric and autonomous-vehicle firms. Researchers are examining risks such as mass sensor disablement and the possibility of transmitting detailed lidar data via cellular links, concerns echoed by lawmakers proposing bans on Chinese lidar components.
