US Revokes Limits on Power Plants' Climate Pollution

The EPA repealed the 2024 Carbon Pollution Standards, eliminating the requirement that existing coal plants and new gas plants capture 90% of carbon emissions or shut down by 2039. The standards had projected a 1.38 billion-metric-ton reduction in carbon and would have prevented 1,200 deaths and 360,000 asthma attacks in 2035. The repeal saves businesses $370 million in regulatory costs but removes health-cost considerations from future rulemaking.
