The US transport secretary told Ford to cut its Chinese ties, including one in Valencia

U.S. transportation secretary wrote to Ford CEO Jim Farley demanding the firm end its partnerships with China’s CATL and Geely, citing a Michigan battery license, delayed Lincoln production relocation, and a Geely-Ford joint venture at Valencia. The EU’s draft Industrial Accelerator Act would cap Chinese ownership at 49%, require 60% EU workers, 1% of revenue for European R&D, 30% local sourcing, and lower investment thresholds to €50 million. Ford-Geely’s four-model Valencia collaboration, slated for 2028 with a 66-34% split, meets the ownership cap but must satisfy the new EU conditions.
