The US will ask the G20 not to build anything to govern AI

The United States will ask the G20 not to create a new AI-governance institution, saying that blocking rule-making bodies is more effective than specific regulations. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and tech adviser Michael Kratsios led the effort at the North Carolina summit. Canada called for balanced innovation and safety, while Europe has already adopted the AI Act, Digital Services Act and Cyber Resilience Act. The result depends on whether other members will invest diplomatic capital to draft a communiqué the U.S. will reject.
