The Vietnam Binh Chau (Chau Tan) Late Tang Wreck
A 2013 storm uncovered a late-Tang shipwreck on Vietnam’s Binh Chau beach, yielding a cargo of Changsha painted wares, Yue greenware, Xing white wares and Guangdong green-glazed jars bearing Arabic ink prayers. The vessel’s hull shows Southeast Asian construction, contrasting with the West-Asian stitched-plank dhow of the earlier 9th-century Belitung wreck, and dates to the second half of the 9th century, about 50–70 years later.
