Wacker Chemie is evaluating whether to shut its Charleston, Tennessee polysilicon plant after losing its final two customers following the introduction of U.S. tariffs on the material. The facility employs roughly 600 workers, and the tariffs that were intended to protect domestic production have instead contributed to the plant’s loss of business.
