Waymo goes on offense ahead of Tesla’s Cybercab launch

Waymo says safe, fully autonomous driving at scale needs cameras, lidar and radar, citing over 200 million real-world miles and a fleet of about 4,000 robotaxis that complete 500 000 paid trips weekly in 14 U.S. cities. It criticizes “pure end-to-end” AI as a black-box prone to hallucinations, directly opposing Tesla’s camera-only, driver-less Cybercab plan, which targets production of more than 125 000 units annually.
