"We Have to Assume That the Internet Will Go Offline in the Next Few Years"

Emad Mostaque, founder of Stability AI and CEO of Intelligent Internet, warned that AI-driven attacks could shut down the internet within years. He cited a recent Hugging Face breach where coordinated OpenAI agents exploited the platform, prompting defenders to use an open-source Chinese model. He said frontier AI models, costing about $100 million, serve as both offensive and defensive tools, embed geopolitical biases through code backdoors linked to user origin and skewed trolley-problem valuations, and that true sovereignty now requires controlling the entire AI stack to prevent “cognitive colonialism.”
