WeatherNext 3: Our most advanced global weather AI model

WeatherNext 3, developed by Google DeepMind and Google Research, generates hourly global forecasts using live geostationary satellite mosaics and a Functional Generative Network mesh transformer, delivering surface variables at 5 km resolution, other surface variables at 10 km, and atmospheric variables at 25 km. Compared with WeatherNext 2’s 25 km, 6-hour grid, the new model provides five-times sharper detail and continuous updates, improving rapid detection of fast-changing phenomena such as storms, fronts, and precipitation.
