What happens when quantum mechanics and relativity meet?

Physicists led by Ron Folman constructed an atom interferometer that splits a single atom into a free-falling path and a stationary path, recombining them to measure the gravitational effect on the atom’s quantum phase. The experiment provides the first direct test of how gravity influences quantum wave behavior, addressing a century-old theoretical conflict between quantum mechanics and general relativity.
