Where's the "Intelligence Explosion"?

Ramez Naam claims that recursive self-improvement would require a feedback loop 5–10 times stronger than current AI progress to cause a runaway intelligence explosion. Current data do not support such a surge. He doubts a fast takeoff will happen, despite AI already outpacing humans in many areas and being projected to become strongly superhuman by 2040.
