Why is the internet so upset about NVIDIA's DLSS 5?

NVIDIA unveiled DLSS 5 at March GTC, claiming it can repaint lighting, materials, skin, and hair in real time up to 4K, changing images instead of scaling. Resident Evil Requiem and Starfield demos produced overly smooth, “beauty-filter” faces, sparking criticism that the tech may override artistic intent. Major publishers such as Bethesda, Capcom, Ubisoft, and Warner Bros. Games have signed on, while developers insist DLSS 5 will remain optional and tunable to preserve each game’s aesthetic.
