Why the Bronze Age Collapsed

The Bronze Age collapse resulted from the transition from bronze to iron weaponry. Because iron was produced locally rather than requiring long-distance trade for tin, imperial centers lost their monopoly on military power. This democratization of weaponry permanently destabilized the complex, centralized states that previously dominated the eastern Mediterranean.
