Xbox’s new disc-to-digital program gives physical games a digital future

Xbox will let owners of most Xbox One and Xbox Series X disc games claim a digital entitlement by inserting the disc and launching the title, enabling fully digital play and access to Xbox Play Anywhere and Cloud Gaming. The physical disc remains functional, but only one revocable license per disc exists, so reselling or lending the disc can transfer the entitlement to another account.
