Xi ends Washington visit with trade truce extended to January

Chinese President Xi Jinping left Washington after extending the US-China trade truce to 10 January, while no new agreements were signed. The visit included first-ever formal AI talks, a pledge to keep AI under human control, and a promise to send pandas Ping Ping and Fu Shuang to Zoo Atlanta. China also reportedly shipped about 1,300 missile and drone parts to Iran’s defence ministry since early 2025, and Xi urged Washington to oppose Taiwan independence.
