Shares of quantum computing companies surged Thursday after the US government awarded grants and took equity stakes: D-Wave closed up 33%, Rigetti 30%, IBM 12% (Chloe Taylor/CNBC)
The U.S. Commerce Department is allocating $2 billion in grants and taking equity stakes in nine quantum-computing firms, with IBM slated to receive $1 billion of the package. Following the announcements, shares of the companies rose sharply, with D-Wave up about 33%, Rigetti up roughly 30%, and IBM gaining around 12%.
